The Port Orchard City Council has chosen another member of its planning commission to fill a council vacancy.

Rob Putaansuu, who works for a bank in the city, was selected on a 6-0 vote Monday night, following another executive session that was extended twice before the vote was taken.

Councilman John Clauson, who made the motion to name Putaansuu, said, “We had 10 excellent candidates. We took so long because it was tough to come up with a characteristic, an issue or a comment that separated one from the rest.”

The council wasn’t able to decide two weeks earlier and delayed the decision to Monday.

Clauson urged the nine others to consider volunteering to serve the city in some other capacity.

There will be an immediate vacancy on the planning commission with Putaansuu’s departure.

Current members who came to the council after serving on the planning board include Fred Chang, Rita DiIenno and Rick Wyatt.

Putaansuu will succeed Tye Moore, who resigned Oct. 25 after being convicted of felony theft in a Superior Court trial. The crime occurred in a business deal while Moore was running for the council last year and did not involve city money.
